Favorite albums of '09.

10. Ducktails - Ducktails

Fun, hazy, laid back, tropical lo-fi pop. What I wanted my summer to be like.

9. Dan Deacon - Bromst

Makes me want to sleep over at your house and stay up and be friends and eat sugar and watch cartoons...

8.
Emeralds - What Happened

...and when you understandably tire of me and grow up I will hide behind layered walls of ambient sound and you’ll forget but I’ll remember.

7. Lotus Plaza - The Floodlight Collective

I prefer this over Deerhunter and Atlas Sound. Reverb-drenched shoegaze pop that somehow emits both warmth and melancholy.

6. Jeans Wilder - Antiques

Quiet, sad, slow, lo-fi bedroom pop. What my summer was like.

5. Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport

This would be the best ride at Alt Disney World.

4. To Kill a Petty Bourgeoisie - Marlone

Mix Cocteau Twins and Beach House. Add darkness.

3. Former Ghosts - Fleurs

Downer synth pop influenced by Ian Curtis and This Mortal Coil. “I Wave” is like having a new (good) Xiu Xiu song.

2. Super Minerals - Clusters

Fucking beautiful authentic minimalist piano drone.

A legitimate reason to drink PBR.

(Donald Sutherland in MASH)

Lady, you are on my list.

1. Ear-damaging/terrible music/noise

2. Awful books by awful people who smile at me on the cover

3. Overwhelming influx of library materials (simultaneously a good thing)

4. Elitist narcissist pricks (“They only kill their own”)

5. Most television and commercials

6. Religion (though often hilarious)
